What a wonderful weekend in Verulamium - sounds like a Roman holiday brochure doesn't it? We got up early on Saturday for the eye popping pageant about the matyrdom of St Alban -who boastsone of the largest cathedrals in England - and the sun came out for it too!


We didn't buy any eyeballs in the cathedral shop though...

And a merry cold time is being had in Ye Olde Englande - these old buildings are gorgeous and this area is full of them.




Sunday was a visit to the Roman Theatre, a climb up the clocktower and then a visit to the amazing Verulamium Museum - followed by lunch at divine Cafe Rouge.

and then a yummy dinner of haddock at Ye Olde Fighting Cock - which claims to be the oldest pub in England

Goodbye Italy, hello Sardinia! Our last view of Vesuvius, which has dominated everything for the last two weeks! But isn't Sardinia in Italy?  - Well that's a moot point… We've come to Sardinia on a singing adventure with a choir put together by Stuart Davis. Great fun so far, and what a talented bunch they are too. A little bit of homework, three or four rehearsals and we're having our first public performance in Cale Gonone tomorrow evening. I'll post some video of it if i can get some. Here is the poster on the town notice board! Sardinia is breathtaking. The days have been HOT, and we've had a dawn swim out the bay and then snorkelling, in between rehearsals. The food is great and the views incredible. Gone are the tourist crowds, apart from some late season Italians and Germans, and everything is so much more relaxed now. The mountains are high and the clouds low! Rencontres de Chants Polyphonique, Calvi, Corsica

Hi, it's the Princess here to update you on our latest adventure! The last post left us high in the spiky mountains in the interior of Corsica so you'll be happy to hear we were safely delivered to Calvi by our wonderful bus driver Domenico who had driven us all through Sardinia as well - just in time for the Polyphonic Songs Festival! Where to start. Our hotel was at the foot of yet another citadel in the centre of the old city on the edge of the sea. Amazingly the beach here has yellow sand - not the black rocks we had become accustomed to. The venue for the festival was an 18th century cathedral up on top of the hill. It was a short but steep hike up - totally worth it for the views and the huge acoustic! We’ve arrived!

Well, in Fiumicino at any rate. A lovely little fishing village just near the airport. Got in at 9pm ('Hotel Tiber') and had a bit of a 'passagio' along the 'mole' checking out the fishermen and the boats. A big Saturday night in the main street with a live band and plenty of locals. We had a good trip and feeling pretty relaxed. Woke up this morning to a lovely day. Off soon to the railway station, quick trip to Rome Termini and then the express (business class!) to Naples at 12md. Next check in soon!
